“It’s a GREAT day to be a Bear!”
- Bud “Dog” Turner
Welcome to “Tell The Whole Damn World!” We’re the podcast for Golden Bear fans who LOVE the University of California. We
celebrate all things Cal! We produce on-camera interviews with the prominent people who are passionate about UC Berkeley and
share stories about the rich history and traditions of the University of California. We hope to put a smile on your face and help you
come away feeling good about your connection to the greatest institution of higher learning on the planet.
How did we choose the name for the podcast?
If you’re a true Cal fan, you know the Bear Territory chant. You know it’s a bold, celebratory exclamation that makes you feel pride
in being a Golden Bear. Our podcast builds off that same exhilarating feeling of being associated with UC Berkeley and we're here
to “Tell The Whole Damn World” what makes THE University of California such a special place to so many of us.
We know that not all of you may be sports fans, but it’s undeniable that sports helps to bring the campus community together – and
we want to leverage that to bring new meaning to what it means to be a Cal fan. Being a Cal fan means more than just being a fan
of football or basketball. It’s about being a fan of the university. It means you get to share being a part of something much bigger
than you alone. You're connected to the rich and storied history of our university – and that's quite a special legacy.
We believe the Bear Territory chant should extend far beyond sports and serve as a rallying cry and bold declaration for all facets of
the university. “Tell The Whole Damn World” about our cutting-edge research and the achievements of our undergraduate and
graduate students. “Tell The Whole Damn World” about what prominent Cal alumni are doing in their respective fields to make the
world a better place. In sports – just like life – fortune favors the bold. So let’s be bold and “Tell The Whole Damn World” why Cal is
the center of the universe!
We release a new episode every Monday. Each episode will bring you an interview with a new featured guest or spotlight someone
special in Cal history.
If there's someone you want us to interview or something you want to learn more about, please tell us – and we will do our very
best to make it happen. Prominent alumni, professors, Nobel laureates – we want to reach out to them all!
Your hosts: Ahmad Anderson, Reza Sirafinejad, and Leslie Mitchell
For Cal fans in the know, Ahmad Anderson needs no introduction. He was inducted into the Cal Hall of Fame and created the Bear
Territory chant. He was a four-year letterwinner at defensive back on the Cal football team, won the Stub Allison Award as Cal's
most inspirational football player as a senior, and was a defensive captain for the 1982 Big Game. He’s on the Board of Directors of
the Cal Alumni Association.
My name is Reza Sirafinejad. A few of you may remember me from long ago (before websites) as the founder of the Go Bears
Sports Information Network – the first email-based sports blog anywhere in the world. I also co-founded the DeCal class called “Cal
History, Spirit, and Traditions” (which is still going strong). I’ve worked for decades behind the scenes as a volunteer for the Cal
Athletic Department coordinating media interviews for football and men’s basketball. For all of you who don't know me, I’m full of
enthusiasm and fire – and I've always considered myself relentlessly optimistic.
And we are so very lucky to have Leslie Mitchell on our show as the co-host of our Cal History episodes. Leslie is a third-generation
Cal alum and lifelong Golden Bear fan who writes articles about notable people associated with our university. You can visit her
website, CalBearsHistory.com, where she posts stories of interesting students, faculty, and alums. She’s an incredible resource when
it comes to learning more about people associated with UC Berkeley who have done great things in this world.
And one final thought...
We believe that the University of California can be a great academic institution AND have a powerhouse athletic program. There’s
no reason we can’t expect excellence both academically and athletically.
A very special thank you to Cal legends Ahmad Anderson, David Ortega, and Dr. Nadesan Permaul for throwing their unwavering
support behind this idea. Without them, this project would never have come to fruition.
